Spray Tanning Tips

Preparation is the key to an even golden tan.

Shave at least 24 hours before your Spray Tan session, and wax 48 hours before.
Exfoliate your skin 24hours before your Spray Tan session for  flawless streak free  tanning results. Spend a little extra time on knees, elbows, feet and hands. You will need an exfoliator especially made for spray tanning the best ones have fruit acids, and without any oil or moisturisers (oil, or oily moisturisers in the product may create a barrier on your skin that will prevent spray tanning solution getting through).

Mature Skin needs extra care the texture of a mature skin is different and generally has many more “dry bits” than younger skin so a good quality moistuirser is required after you exfoliate.
Do not wear any any perfume, moisturiser, lotions or deoderants or make up to your spray tanning session or while the tan is developing.
Don't wear wool, nylon or silk during or for 8 hours after your spray tan session as the tan solution ingredients can stain those fibres.
Wear dark lose fitting clothes. Although the tan Solution washes out of most clothing it may show some temporary discolouration on light clothing for up to 8 hours after the spray tan session.

Aftercare.

Don't moisturise until after your first shower, which should be at least 8 hours after the spray tan session. This could interupt the setting process and result in a streaky uneven tan.

Do wait at least 8 hours after your session to shower. This allows time for the reaction to occur. Ideally leave overnight.

Don't excessively exfoliate. When you do exfoliate make sure you do so evenly, and as gently as possible.

Do moisturise morning and night starting the day after your spray tan session, this guards against your new tan drying out and possibly rubbing off. Apply mouisturiser to your face and body using circular motions. Pat your skin dry after a bath or shower. Rubbing aggresively may rub off your tan.

Don't exercise or sweat excessivel  as this could have an influence on the development of your tan

Don't swim on the day of your spray tan session. Chlorine will bleach the tan but it can also affect the immediate reaction of the spray tan solution. Additionally, chlorine and salt water may dry your skin out causing your tan to fade faster.
Do avoid long hot baths and showers, these speed up exfoliation.

Don't worry if you see colour washing off after your first shower as this is perfectly normal. This is the cosmetic bronzer washing off, revealing your beautiful tan.

Do make sure you use gentle shower products. Simple shower gel is a good example of a gentle product. Some soaps are very harsh and can take off the tan in patches.

Don't forget to apply a SPF sunscreen in the sun to keep from burning. The spray tan solution has a very low SPF.

Do go out and show off your gorgeous sun kissed, sunless spray tan.

Removing spray tan

The easiest way of removing spray tan is to moisturise your body with baby oil, leave it on for couple of hours, and then have a hot bath, grab one of those exfoliating gloves (or loofah), pour some exfoliating gel onto it and scrub everything off.
Time to book your next tan.

FAQs for competition tanning.

Q: How do I prepare for a Competition Tan?
A: Wax or shave and exfoliate thoroughly. Pay special attention to your legs, knees, ankles, feet, elbows and knuckles. This will eliminate dead skin cells and prepare your skin for a flawless competition tan. Make sure your skin is dry and free of make up, lotion, oil or deodorants.
Q: What should I wear after my competition tan is applied?
A: Wear lose fitting dark clothes. Anything that chafes the skin will cause the tan to rub off. Cotton works best. Flip flops are ideal for avoiding tan lines on the feet.
Q: When should I start applying my colour for competition?
A: We recommend that you start the day before the competition.
If you have a fair complexion and do not have a base tan, the morning before is recommended. Do NOT WASH THE PRODUCT OFF and apply again the evening before. In some cases you may want to apply another coat the morning of the competition.
